Chapter OneAwakened to a MysteryOne dark, chilly night in January 1986, Halley’s Comet started me on a journey searching for truth among the stars. Over 300 of us were gathered on a small island in the Gulf of Mexico to observe the comet through telescopes. My 81 year-old grandmother and her twin sister accompanied me that night. They had seen the comet years ago and were anxious to see it once again. When our turn came at the telescopes, we weren’t sure if we would see anything because of the overcast sky. Suddenly, the clouds parted and there it was… Halley’s Comet… but much more – the magnificent Milky Way! Everywhere I turned the telescope, I saw beautiful groups of stars. A sense of awe enveloped me and a strong desire was birthed in me to study the stars and find meaning in all that beauty. After that night, I began reading everything about the stars I could find available. I joined an astronomy club and even bought myself a telescope. What I learned began to excite me. The signs of the Zodiac were not just interesting tales about mythical figures. I sensed a cosmic story was being told, written in the universal language of pictures for everyone to see in the sky.
